Olafs U15 hurlers crowned Regional Féile Shield winners!

Huge congratulations to the U15 hurlers on winning the Regional Féile Shield Final in Co Down last weekend! After winning their Dublin Féile in May, Olafs were invited to represent Dublin in the Regional Féile Finals in Co. Down, together with teams from Westmeath, Derry, Down, Antrim, Meath and Kildare.

The Olafs boys and mentors travelled by coach to Clonduff, Co. Down in a baking hot day with nerves and excitement in equal measure. Despite getting off to a slow start in the first game, going down 3:5 to 1:2 to the Westmeath champions (Eddie’s home club of Castletown Geoghegan), the lads showed remarkable character and desire to bounce right back with a strong performance to win the second game in the group against Ballycran of Down. Next up was a very strong Derry outfit (Banagher GAA) that proved too much for Olafs despite a brilliant battle and some beautiful shooting from both teams. That put Olafs in the Shield semi-finals with the boys going on to win comfortably against the host side, Clonduff. This set up an opportunity for silverware in the Shield final against Meath champions, Ratoath.

Despite the baking sun and 4 games under their belts, the Olafs boys saved their best til last. They played with huge desire and energy, their work rate alone blew the opposition away in the final and with some brilliant scores and outstanding defence the lads ran out comfortable winners in the end, 2:5 to 1:1. There were great celebrations amongst the players, coaches and all the parents that travelled north of the border on a brilliant day for hurling and another great achievement for our club!
