On Tuesday, 29th March, the Club officially launched our Greenspace Sustainability Charter.
The initiative is dedicated to the legacy of local Sandyford resident, environmentalist, natural historian, artist, filmmaker & author Gerrit van Gelderen, best known to most of us for his acclaimed nature programmes for RTÉ.
Finn van Gelderen put together a wonderful tribute to his dad, as well as a passionate address to current and future generations.
Club chairman John Somers outlined the Charter's aims, highlighted what had been done so far and how we all can help to make a difference making small changes; from the beehives on the club roof, to the recently planted pocket forest with support from Sandyford Business District, Harry O'Crowley and beyond.
Neil Barrett spoke about his work with Vermicomposting and how much value can be provded to the Club and its greenspaces, and how the green waste from The Juice Boxx is being put to great use.
Minister for Sport, Culture, Tourism, Gaeltacht, Media Catherine Martin, T.D., Cllr. Lettie McCarthy (Cathaoirleach of DLRCoCo), Daniel Dunne (DLRCoCo & Green Party), Oisín O’Connor (Green Party) were also able to attend on the night to help the launch and raise awareness.
